'What do you think? Will it sell?'
Well... what have we learned from Ms. Cody?
- If you write it in a way that's interesting, engaging, smart, chock-full of personality and style (to the point where some think it's obnoxious and some can't get enough of it),
- If you write it for your own reasons, in your own way, and not specifically to fit the tastes of some imagined 'audience' or latest editorial priority (but are totally open to selling out, and genuinely, unashamedly believe being successful would be a lot of fun),
- If you happen to get noticed by a big-time agent/ editor/ somebody with good connections in the publishing world,
and
- If they like what they see, but want to see more on short notice and you can PRODUCE it with alarming speed and alacrity,
then... yeah. It probably would sell. The problem is, that's a lot of 'ifs.' Cody is the first one plucked from the Blogosphere to have such resounding mainstream success. She won't be the last. But I think it'll be a while before the next one, that poor sod will probably be dashed on the rocks, and then a few others will present themselves, at a slow and steady rate.
