Let us start off the New Year with a return to the Classics. Most know him as a playwright, but he is actually a great short sorry writer as well. I picked up this collection a while back at a local Barnes and Noble and found the tales to be surprisingly Modern and ahead of its time.

A detailed review can be read here.

While the Russians certainly produced some great writers and poets, Chekhov is by far one of the best. He is also a great writer to read for anyone wanting to study the short story as a form—or just someone wanting some great, entertaining stories to read.

These tales are fresh and hold the hallmark of great writing: read them and you will find it hard to believe they were written in their time.

Amazon lists the price for $7.95, which isn’t bad for a 400 page collection of great stories. You won’t be disappointed.
