Captain AmericaOct 19th, 2007 - 00:27:56

I have my reservations about the new design. Not just anybody can be Captain America. Bucky Barnes the Winter Soldier will now wear the mantle of sentinel of liberty. It may appear that he dies in the current issue of Marvel Comics Captain America but do not be fooled.
While Steve Rogers did get shot and did die. The same does not go for Bucky. He did not survive that explosion 60 years ago just to be killed by his greatest adversary. There is a reason for everything.
It was meant to be this way. Sorry if it spoils it for anyone. But that is what's going to happen. Watch for the new Captain America in 2008.

First, the costume looks very similar to Ross's rejected Spiderman movie costume. I really like Mr Ross's work, but I think he flubbed this one. I mean really, chrome? Chrome isn't flexible, how does he bend, raise his arms, move his head? And how does he even get his head in it? The gun and knife don't bother me, he's a soldier after all. But the wings on his head and those silly buccaneer style boots have got to go. The best redesigned Cap costume has to be Brian Hitch's Ultimate Captain America - functionally updated and still true to the character.

Second, Steve Rogers is Captain America. Bruce Wayne is Batman, Clark Kent is Superman and Hal Jordan is the Green Lantern. Azrael couldn't cut it as Batman, the death of Superman was a joke, and Kyle Rainer, well the brought the originals back, didnt they? Characters can be updated and refreshed without killing them off and replacing them with different characters. And yes the whole Dick Grayson/Jason Todd/Tim Drake, etc. Robin fiasco is silly, too.

I see this as a marketing ploy to pump out more merchandising, Marvel is in business to make money. I also see Steve Rogers making a comeback, the super soldier serum putting him into suspended animation while it repairs him. Just don't wait 20 years to do it this time.

That new costume should stay where it belongs: in Alex Ross's imagination. It's not nearly as exciting as the classic costume with the star on the chest and the stripes at the midsection. That doesn't look good. These pro artists can't always get it right.

Having Bucky become Cap is fitting. I don't mind at all. The Skull and Dr. Faustus Hate Bucky equally as much as Steve.
There is only one person fit to become Cap and the only guy in the UNIVERSE called Marvel the rest of the roster will not mind either.
BUCKY. Yes I think Steve will be back. I think throught the use of the cosmic cube somehow. Perhaps his mind will take over the Skulls cloned Cap body and put an end to REDs evil legacy forever.
Only time will tell what the genius' at Marvel will do next. But I can't wait for this new storyline. I don't really care for the new costume either. But...I think the black sections of the uniform represent the Black bands athletes wear when a player dies. But yes the whole design looks like the T-shirts I see at the Puerto rican flag day everyt summer on Fifth ave.
It's Got to go. The chrome? Well it's probably a Stark invention similar to the Golden tights he wears under his IRON-MAN armor.
